He Scourges Every
Son Whom He Receives
Hebrews 12:6
“For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines,
And He scourges every son whom He receives.”
At this site we
have spoken about many different topics. We have
explored different avenues of thought and
experience, areas of restoration that God is
bringing to His sons at this time. But there is one
aspect of sonship that can get overlooked at times.
It is certainly not something that our soul would
relish, and it is something that we probably would
hope is completed. And that is what Paul speaks of
in Hebrews….that He scourges every son whom He
receives. That unless you are a partaker of His
scourgings, you will not be a partaker of His
righteousness.
That is the calling
card of the son; His scourgings have been deep, and
complete. What separates the babe in Christ from
the son? His scourging. His deep work of
preparation in the heart.
No one really likes
to be scourged. It is generally not a pleasant
experience, as the soul flesh of an individual is
brought to a deep and complete work of the cross.
But we know that without this, we will not be a
partaker of that which He has prepared for us.
What separates the
wheat from the chaff? His scourging. Can there
possibly be one reason why we see so many
denominations, so many churches, espousing so many
different and varied beliefs? I would say the
answer is probably simple. His scourgings. No one
really wants to pay the price. When God gets too
close, ooops, it’s time to move on. All of a sudden
people close down, they are not willing to go any
further. Because God has gotten just a bit too
close for comfort, and something within them must
die out, in order to live. That is very close and
very personal.
If you watch
yourself throughout the day, you can pretty much
tell just how dead you are, or are not. Just how
dead is that soul flesh within you.
The path to
sonship, to resurrection, to the redemption of all
His promises; the path to His power and authority,
is a path that is concurrent with His sufferings,
His scourgings, His deep work within you. There
cannot be any other Gods that we serve. We cannot
be fair weather Christians, that when the heat is
turned up, well it is time for a vacation.
If we want the
realities of sonship, the realities of a walk in the
spirit so far beyond what our eye has seen, or has
entered into our hearts, then we must realize it
does come with a very steep price. His scourging
within you must be complete. You must allow Him to
complete what He has begun within you. I say
You
must Allow, because you must allow. He will not
cross our will. You must take your life, your soul
flesh as I call it, and tie it to the horns of the
altar. It must die. You must die on one level that
you might come alive on the level of the kingdom.
We are not dead
enough yet, but our demand must be that His will be
done within our lives. As we read in the book of
Revelations…..they love not their lives unto death.
A nice platitude, but that scripture must be lived,
it must be experienced. You determine to do this,
you determine to allow Him to scourge you, you
determine to cleave unto the cross and let the work
be complete, you determine His will over your will.
This is the path to
sonship. This is the path to change and
transformation. It can take a long time, or we can
determine to hold our hearts before Him and let Him
complete what is needed within each of us.
It’s your call.
